compressed and overlapped
I confess. I’ve been preoccupied with preparing for an exhibition. (delivering work to the gallery in just a handful of days!)
There’s been much time alone in the studio with my thoughts. I’ve missed people a bit. However, my re-entry into the classroom in mid October has helped provide some respite from the voices in my head.
Ceramics has a sort of rhythm about the process. (I’ve typed about this a couple of times: here and here) Yet, when preparing for a show, everything about this clay business is compressed and overlapped. Pieces that would normally take ten weeks to complete are pushed through in half the time. (a risky endeavor)

That push requires that some things be sacrificed, like Saturday afternoons and Sunday evenings, planting my winter garden and cooking dinner more often than ordering pizza, commission work and inventory*. (Old Mother Hubbard has nothing on my sparse studio shelves – not a mug to be found!)
As I near the end of this manic stretch (just a couple weeks till the opening), I’m feeling good about where I’m at. Though there’s a lot yet to do, my thoughts aren’t as distracting this week. Also, I’ve managed to consolidate several to-do lists into a single stack.
