something worthwhile

It’s been some time since I’ve written much of anything. I can’t say I haven’t felt like writing. The prompts just seemed fleeting or ill-timed. I’ve used the demands of everyday as an excuse to cover my uncertainty. I don’t doubt that there is something to say, but is it really worth saying. There’s an awful lot of noise out there these days. If I’m just raising the decibel level – well, we can all do without that. Let’s be honest. Nothing I say is going to change the world. And yet, something said may provide clarity or understanding, redirect a thought or encourage a heart. That’s worthwhile.

Since we last talked nearly a year ago, I’ve been adjusting to not being in the classroom. There have been challenges – most in prioritizing time while in the studio.

I participated in a couple local juried shows while preparing for my November solo exhibition, Small Rebellions, at Practical Art.

I also spent several months taking care of the business end of art. Um, the business end of art is sort’a like a reverse mullet – the business end mostly happens in the back ::at least to the artist::

While preparing for the November show, I quietly launched my online shop in October. I carry tableware, decorative containers and drawings on clay. The hope is to update the shop several times a year.

It’s also my desire to include a guest artist in the shop every few months. Sam Hodges was my guest through December. Together we took our first tentative dip into the waters of online sales ::staying mostly in the shallow end:: The whole online thing wasn’t nearly as frightening as the shark infested waters my expectations led me to believe.

Thank you to everyone who made it out to see the show in November. Your support is much appreciated. To those who purchased work from the show or online, there is a great sense of satisfaction when a piece finds it’s forever home. Thank you.
